Eckhart Tolle has said, ‘I have lived with many zen masters, all of them cats’.
My cats, who otherwise are scaredy-cats will run away if you walk into a room forcefully, getting from A to B. Or upon opening the door to let them out (if you are wearing the wrong shoes) will sneak up in stealth mode then scoot past to escape. Never mind, turning the vacuum cleaner on. That will result in a mad scatter.
Yet, every morning as I sit for 15 minutes of meditation, they will leap onto my lap to luxuriate in the calmness. I believe the purring is their mantra and has the same effect on them. It is quite soothing for humans as well.
We should all take a page from their book as whenever stress rears its ugly head they escape it, as fast as possible, find a safe place to settle down and forget it even exists.
